New Foundation Counselling
New Foundation Counselling is an Employer’s Assistance Provider, or Programme (EAP) for companies servicing or operating in the Construction and Property industry. Our mandate is to improve and educate on mental health in construction.
Using a number of innovative and effective methods, New Foundation Counselling specialise in raising mental health awareness and wellbeing in construction and aims to assist and educate employers in spotting the signs of mental health issues in employees and colleagues.
New Foundation Counselling is a counselling service for workers, professionals and managers employed in our industry. We are run by people with a background in or an understanding of what it is like to work in the high pressure world of construction and property. Our professional team are made up of people who understand the sector and are experienced practitioners in the arena of “talking cures”. As such, our team are ideally placed to tackle issues related to work related stress and stress in construction.
With many years’ experience working in the construction sector at senior level, the leadership team passionately believes that good mental health is critical to the health and well-being of highly motivated and productive staff. As a result, they have created a tailored programme of mental health support to meet the specific needs of construction companies and their employees, specifically specialising in counselling for men.
The leadership team brings together a wealth of understanding and experience of dealing with mental health and emotional well-being issues and work related stress. Their work centers around effectively counselling and supporting a range of individuals in the construction industry who are in crisis or experiencing work related stress and anxiety or other common mental health issues such as, relationship issues, dealing with grief or loss, addictions or phobias. The team offers a dynamic and innovative approach and provides practical solutions to emotional well-being issues. By combining skills from their backgrounds as qualified counsellors together with their extensive industry experience they have unique insight into the issues and are well placed to offer expert resolutions.
Our mission
Our mission is to improve mental health and wellbeing in construction, reduce the stigma attached to mental health for men and help through innovative approaches improve the wellbeing and effectiveness of the men and women in construction.

The directors work with a network of handpicked and highly qualified therapists who are registered with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy to ensure the delivery of the highest possible standards in mental health service provision.
New Foundation Counselling’s approach is based on the individual – you’re unique, as your treatment should be. We are committed to delivering counselling services which ensure that we are able to provide the most effective support options to meet the individual needs of employees – both the men and women dealing with stress in construction. Our dynamic and innovative services are delivered confidentially and are free of charge to the employee for a set of up to 8 sessions after which time the employee can make arrangements for additional counselling if required.

Marc Preston BA (Hons) MRICS, MCIOB, MBACP – CEO
A Construction Professional, Counsellor, Author and Trustee, Marc brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the New Foundation team.
With over 35 years’ experience in the construction industry, including time spent as CEO of a Quantity Surveying consultancy, Marc has a unique understanding of the pressures and emotional strains of the industry and is aware of the effects of work related stress making him ideally placed to lead the company specialising in the dynamic and innovative talking cures for people working in delivering the built environment.
Marc has worked at both grass roots level and in senior management having trained with John Laing and achieved board level within Alfred McAlpine Special Projects. He latterly has worked with a variety of SME’s operating throughout the supply chain. In addition to his construction and property development experience, Marc is a qualified counsellor specialising in integrative counselling and volunteers his services to patients with alcohol related issues. Marc also specialises in counselling for men and stress in construction.
Publications
Marc is the author of the standard contract for counselling and psychotherapy which sets out the basis of the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor. Marc also contributed to the BACP good practice in action guide to therapeutic agreement in the counselling professions.
